The Upturn in Defamation Searches

I have noticed that there has been a significant upturn in the number of defamation searches in the U.S. over the last couple of years.

Searches for “internet defamation” and “defamation attorney” or “defamation lawyer” have gone up in tandem, so it is clear that there is a likely correlation between the two.

Internet Defamation Searches and Defamation Attorney Searches
Google Trends shows that there has been a significant increase in Internet Defamation searches and Defamation Attorney searches.

For a combination of reasons, more consumers have been searching for defamation attorneys and law firms in the past few years. I explored this in an article about the increased defamation searches at the defamation expert witness website.

For some more observations on the search trends, read on.

These types of searches are originating in all U.S. states, including: Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Florida, and more.

While there are a number of reasons why searches for defamation law firms are on the upswing, the searcher intent is very clear: More consumers are seeking out representation because they believe they have been defamed. And, a big component of defamation nowadays almost always includes defamation expressed via online media. Defamation is conveyed on webpages and blogs, news site articles, social media, forums, ads, videos, images, and more.

I have seen what appears to be an uptick in inquiries about my services as an expert witness for online defamation cases, and this led me to check Google Trends for whether there is a widespread trend in related searches.

If there is increased demand for defamation attorneys, there is likely to be a related increased demand for defamation expert witnesses as well. I have long worked as an SEO expert witness, and as an online reputation management consultant. I have also long worked as a defamation expert witness — there are very few expert witnesses who have the depth of testifying experience I have combined with experience in repairing online reputations and internet analytics.

Research shows that adding an expert witness to your case can help increase damage awards and settlements. I have a track record of helping clients get compensation for the reputation damage they have endured. My clients have collectively been awarded over $100 million in damages or negotiated settlements.
